The City of Alamo has taken a significant step in addressing its healthcare needs by submitting a request for military assistance to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense-Reserve Affairs. This request, part of the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program, aims to bring mobile medical clinics to the city, according to a public notice from the City of Alamo News.

Alamo officials are seeking this support due to financial hardships that prevent the city from independently realizing the project. The IRT program, authorized by Section 2012 of Title 10 of the United States Code, allows for military assistance in community projects when such support is not readily available from commercial entities. The city hopes to implement these mobile clinics by 2028, providing much-needed medical services to residents who may otherwise lack access.

In other community news, the Alamo Youth Center is hosting a "Crocheting for Seniors" event, offering a free and relaxing afternoon for local seniors. As announced by the City of Alamo News, the event will take place on Tuesday, September 29, from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Alamo Youth Center Gym located at 501 N 13th St, Alamo, TX 78516. No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided. Interested participants are encouraged to register in person due to limited spots.

These initiatives highlight the city's efforts to support its residents, both in terms of healthcare and community engagement, despite ongoing financial challenges. For more information on the mobile medical clinics, residents can contact the City of Alamo at (956) 787-0006 or visit irt.defense.gov.
