Kerr County has initiated an emergency debris pickup plan to address the aftermath of the catastrophic flood that occurred on July 16. The Kerr County Commissioners' Court has contracted Garner Environmental Services, Inc. to collect Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris, with operations beginning on August 26 and continuing for three weeks. The contract, valued at $500,000, was awarded on Monday, according to Kerr County Latest News.

Residents in unincorporated areas are advised to exercise caution as large trucks will be operating on local roads to remove debris from flood-damaged homes and businesses. DebrisTech has also been contracted to monitor the collection and audit volumes to ensure compliance and potential federal reimbursement. The debris collection is limited to C&D materials, which include wood, steel, concrete, and other building materials, and excludes vegetative matter, electronics, and hazardous materials.

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly emphasized the importance of the plan for public health and safety, stating, "We’re doing everything in our power to do things as quickly and as economically as we can." Residents are instructed to separate their C&D debris and place it on the right-of-way at the edge of their property for collection.

Support for Veterans and Seniors

In other news, the Kerr County Veterans Service Office (VSO) has announced a partnership with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Area Agency on Aging to provide additional support to local veterans and adults aged 60 and older. This collaboration aims to assist with income support for utility bills, health-related items, and minor residential repairs, as reported by Kerr County Latest News.

Jenna Sanchez, Kerr County Veterans Service Officer, expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, "It means veterans in our community and aging adults in Kerr County will get more help in maintaining their independence and well-being." Eligible individuals can contact the Alamo Service Connection for assistance or reach out to the Kerr County VSO for guidance through the application process.

Veterans Invited to Share Their Stories

The Kerr County Veterans Service Office is also encouraging local veterans to participate in the Texas General Land Office’s “Voices of Veterans” program. This oral history initiative seeks to preserve veterans' firsthand accounts of their military service and experiences upon returning home. Recording sessions will be scheduled at the Kerr County Veterans Service Office, with details forthcoming based on participation levels. More information can be obtained by contacting the VSO directly, as noted in Kerr County Latest News.

Elm Pass Road Work

Motorists traveling southeast of Center Point should anticipate temporary delays due to ongoing roadwork on Elm Pass Road. The Kerr County Road and Bridge department is reconstructing three sections of the road to address substructure damage. The project involves resurfacing with two courses of chipseal, with the first coat expected to be completed by April 1. Drivers can expect delays of 10 to 15 minutes during this period, as reported by Kerr County Latest News.

The Kerr County Road and Bridge leaders appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during this necessary maintenance, which is expected to reduce the need for major repairs on Elm Pass Road for the next 8 to 10 years.
