The Kerr County Veterans Service Office (VSO) has announced a new initiative to help keep senior residents warm this winter. In partnership with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), the VSO is offering free small space heaters to individuals 60 years and older, as well as caregivers aged 55 and above, who lack a safe heating source in their homes. This initiative, known as the Warm Hearts Warm Homes program, aims to provide essential support to the county's older population, according to Kerr County Latest News.
Jenna Sanchez, the Kerr County Veterans Service Officer, emphasized the importance of this program, stating, "We want to make sure that our older veterans stay warm, safe, and supported throughout the colder months ahead." She also noted that the heaters would be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited supplies. Eligible individuals are encouraged to contact the Kerr County VSO promptly to determine their eligibility and secure a heater. Interested parties can reach out via phone at 830-792-2203 or email at veterans.service@veterans.kerrcountytx.gov.
The program underscores the county's commitment to supporting its older residents, particularly veterans, during the winter months. With the colder season approaching, the initiative is a timely response to the needs of those who may not have access to safe heating options. The program's guidelines specify that stoves are not considered approved heating sources, highlighting the necessity for proper heating equipment.
This effort by the Kerr County VSO and AACOG reflects a broader commitment to community welfare and safety, ensuring that vulnerable populations are not left without essential resources during critical times. As the program unfolds, it will be crucial for eligible residents to act quickly to take advantage of this opportunity.
