Seguin is buzzing with activity as the city prepares to launch a new round of its Fix-It Facade Grant Program, aimed at revitalizing the historic downtown area. According to the City of Seguin News Flash, the program, now managed by the City’s Historic Preservation Department, will begin accepting applications on October 1, 2026. This initiative offers business and property owners within the Downtown Historic District an opportunity to enhance their building exteriors, thereby preserving the unique character of Seguin's downtown.

The grant program, which has transitioned from the Main Street department, encourages owners to invest in repairs, fresh looks, and other eligible exterior improvements. The city hopes this effort will not only maintain but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the downtown area, making it a more attractive destination for both locals and visitors.

Artistic Flair in Downtown Seguin

Adding to the cultural vibrancy of Seguin, internationally renowned artist and creator of Chalk Paint, Annie Sloan, will be visiting the city this October. As reported by the City of Seguin News Flash, Sloan will be in town from October 14–17, 2026, for a series of special events at Keepers Interiors & Furniture, one of her flagship stores located at 615 N. Austin St.

Sloan's visit marks one of only two U.S. stops this year, providing a rare opportunity for attendees to engage with one of the most influential figures in decorative painting. The visit is particularly significant for Sam Ehrlich, owner of Keepers Interiors & Furniture, who has been deeply influenced by Sloan's work. Ehrlich, who has studied with Sloan in Oxford and across the United States, describes her as a mentor and friend.

The highlight of Sloan's visit will be the "Joy of Chalk Paint Masterclass," a two-day event led by Annie Sloan UK Brand Ambassador Tristan Merriam, with special appearances by Sloan herself. This masterclass will offer participants hands-on instruction and insights into Sloan's unique approach to painting and furniture transformation.

Library Accreditation and Community Events

In other news, the Seguin Public Library has once again been accredited by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) for the State Fiscal Year 2027, as announced by the City of Seguin News Flash. This accreditation ensures the library's continued access to a wide range of programs and resources, including interlibrary loans, grant opportunities, and educational initiatives.

Having been accredited for over 35 years, the Seguin Public Library remains a vital part of the community, offering access to the TexShare Card and Database programs, E-Read Texas E-Books, and more. These resources are made possible through federal funding and are crucial for the library's ability to serve the community effectively.

Additionally, the community is invited to attend the upcoming State of the City event on September 29, 2026, where local leaders will discuss ongoing projects and future plans for Seguin. This event provides a platform for residents to engage with city officials and learn more about the initiatives shaping their community.

Seguin's commitment to cultural enrichment and community development is evident in these recent initiatives and events, promising an exciting future for the city's residents and visitors alike.
