Wilson County residents should mark their calendars for a series of upcoming office closures and tax-related changes that will affect them in the coming months. The Wilson County Tax Office has announced a comprehensive schedule of holiday closures and staff development days, alongside updates to tax payment discounts and DMV requirements, according to the Wilson County News.
Upcoming Office Closures
The Wilson County Tax Office will be closed on several holidays, including Labor Day on September 7, 2026, and the Peanut Festival on October 8 and 9, 2026. Additional closures are scheduled for Veteran's Day on November 11, Thanksgiving from November 25 to 27, and Christmas from December 23 to 25. The office will also close on December 30 and 31 for New Year's Eve. Furthermore, the office will close early at 2:00 p.m. on specific Mondays for staff development, including September 21, October 19, and November 16, 2026.
Tax Discounts and DMV Requirements
Wilson County property owners are reminded of the available property tax discounts, which include a 3% discount for full payments made by October 31, a 2% discount by November 30, and a 1% discount by December 31. However, not all taxing entities allow these discounts, and payments must be made in full on the same day to qualify. Multiple payments will be treated as partial payments for the January amount, voiding the discount, according to the Wilson County News.
In addition, new DMV requirements mandate that vehicle registration renewals require a valid driver's license or ID. The registered owner must be present, and the license or ID cannot be expired. These changes are effective immediately under the Texas Transportation Code, Chapter 502.
Truth-In-Taxation Postcards
Wilson County property owners should expect to receive their Truth-In-Taxation postcards for 2023 soon. These postcards, mandated by Senate Bill 2, direct property owners to the official website where they can access information about property tax rates and provide feedback to local taxing units. The Wilson County Appraisal District will update this database regularly during August and September as local taxing units propose and adopt new property tax rates.
Customer Feedback and Tax Office Operations
The Wilson County Tax Assessor-Collector is seeking feedback from residents to improve customer service. Residents are encouraged to rate their experiences and provide comments on how the office can better serve the community. The feedback form is available on the Wilson County News website.
